I just got back, cleaned up and unpacked.

Thanks to Eric for organizing this once again! Eric does great work, but man it blows my mind how things can come together with such minimal communication.

I followed Eric’s departure plan and met up with him and fintail in Bellevue

Started off with a bit of overcast and drizzle.

Kinja'd!!!

We ran into CarsofFortLangley on the highway. The only really remarkable car in our Trio was Eric in his ST since fintail and I were in our dailies. After waving and a confused look, then recognition of the ST, we were in convoy onto the second destination.

Kinja'd!!!

Krispy Kreme...mmm donuts.

Kinja'd!!!

We hit the road again.

Saw some interesting things on the road.

Kinja'd!!!

A Lambo

Kinja'd!!!

Yea that’s a really nice HD photo of my dash. Silly autofocus...

Kinja'd!!!

Some military Humvees.

Kinja'd!!!

Also had this super awesome shot of Eric passing under some moving trains, but I bumped it at the last second.

Kinja'd!!!

We met up with the rest of the group at the designated location. I love how eclectic the group is. Almost no two vehicles the same.

Kinja'd!!!

There is the ST hiding behind the Interceptor.

Kinja'd!!!

Sparco wheels on the FiST and a sparco tongue/tow hook on the . I think it is a tongue :P

Didn’t take a picture as the rest of the group (2 motorcycles and a Benz) joined, you guys weren’t cropped, just late :P

We hit the River view Cafe? For some burgers, we lost two of our group unfortunately as we were on the lower ground on a curve, fintail has some footage of our attempts to flag them down, but alas.

Kinja'd!!!

The spot is pretty unassuming, with decent food, but the view off the deck was almost unfittingly gorgeous for a burger spot.

Kinja'd!!!

Some group chow

Kinja'd!!!

Then back to the cars to get back on the road.

Kinja'd!!!

Red/orange seemed to be our primary color

Kinja'd!!!

Back on the road we hit the road for some spirited driving. A bit of swapping took place as some passed, other’s slowed down, some waited, overall though the people who wanted to keep pace did and those who seemed more content to cruise did so as well.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The scale of the scenery is hard to capture. It is immense. I’ve been here a few times as a kid, but never appreciated it. Seeing other kids wandering about, made me hope they appreciate it or come back as I was lucky enough to do at some point to really take it in.

Kinja'd!!!

Back in the lot we said our fairwells and split up on our own routes.

Aestheticsinmotion, AMGtech, and I decided to spend the night and camp out.

Kinja'd!!!

Made some grub.

Kinja'd!!!

Setup camp. It is surprising how much AMGtech had brought on his Ducati, leaves no excuse for my thoughts of wondering if I can pack everything into the Datsun.

After a bit of a struggle

Kinja'd!!!

And a little help of some fuel, we got a nice fire going. The wood while looking dry was quite wet given the sizzling noise it made throughout the whole process. We spent the time talking of engines, swaps, beautiful scenery, camping. I think another great day of this year so far.

F*ck yeah. Looks awesome out there. Gotta get camping soon. So much fun driving to a destination away from everything and staying there and just being. That’s underrated these days.

Man, now I’m really wishing I’d decided to join in the camping. Next time for sure!

It was great meeting you and finally putting a face to the name. The “$500" datsun has been one of my favorite recurring write-ups on here!

It looks like it!

On a side note, was impressed enough by those bags that I just bought a set for the triple

Aw thanks, that’s been fun to keep track of.

Very nice to meet you as well, I mentioned it to AMGtech, but I was blown away by how intimately you knew that monster of an S2000. Looking forward to some more info on that one!

Yea, definitely a load off when you don’t have to factor in the return trip same day. Once the Z is more sorted and reliable definitely plan on doing more of these.

For sure! Hopefully I’ll have time in the next few weeks to install that 2-post so I can start up the rebuild on that motor in earnest. Have a decent camera in the garage so I’m hoping to get time lapse video of most of the work too!

Oh yeah for sure and it gives you purpose in your drive... planning out a route and destination. Then following through and achieving that mini mission and just living in that enjoyment for a bit. Awesome.

I spur of the moment tried to get some oppos together for a meet and cruise. Didn’t work out lol. Gotta set a date and plan it out better like you guys did. Also working on my na8 to get her in shape to hopefully drive to the beach here soon. Cooling system issues and now clutch/transmission. Hopefully my clutch and transmission fluid change will sort things out... then on to the cooling system.

I totally should have stayed the night down there, too. It was a super long day and would have been fun to spend more time with you guys.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how well these come together. It’s definitely not something that comes naturally to me, particularly the being seen as a leader part of it. In my experience, it is all about planning in advance, being flexible, and being as democratic as you can be (especially with the date, because if you pick a date arbitrarily you could end up losing much of the local group). In some cases you just have to make an executive decision, but always incorporate the group’s preferences where possible. The initial discussion looked one way, but uncertainty about weather made it necessary to strike some from the list. In retrospect, it was the right decision - it was warm and dry for the cruise (the others options had a lot of rain) plus it was a good spot to bring everyone together from the region.

The really surprising ones for me are the short notice brewery and bar meets. Quite a few of us end up going to those, even though they don’t have much planning involved. It’s one of those things where you go on faith that at least one or two others will show. I’m very interested in how CarsofFortLangley’s coming meet goes, as I believe it has the longest planning lead for a meet that I’ve seen here.

Thanks for the insight. I will take your advice. Not a lot of people on here live in Asheville (just me and ramblin rover I think), but there are many roads and sights that would make it worth a trip for some. I will have minimal planning involved, but will try to plan something! I for real have very few friends that are in to cars, so I like the idea of getting involved with meets.

Is the Nashville meet the one you mean that’s coming up? I would go if I could but that’s a hard trip to make currently!

No, the one in Vancouver, BC. CarsofFortLangley attended our cruise over the weekend and is hosting this event.

I’m not sure what you do about being in too small an area. You might need to bite the bullet and go to a bigger city nearby for a meet...

Oh got ya. And Asheville is small, but of the cities with twisty mountain roads... it’s one of the bigger on the east coast. Though I do see what you’re saying. I will have to think about it and plan accordingly. Was about to drive to Richmond for that Japanese classics meet, but was having some other pressing matters

Came here to see if you were available for some wiring work and realize I missed your trip post! That was a ton of fun, definitely a day to remember.

Big plans for the long weekend?

Unfortunately not. I’m taking new employees through safety training on Sunday and am back to work Monday...

That said I DO have a massive radiator, coolant reroute and some hood extractors to install. Along with numerous wiring odds and ends. If I could do that Saturday, then do a quick drive up to the mountains....

Wiring/electrical gear. I should have everything else. There’s a place in Kirkland I’ve been using lately on the weekends because of the privacy and weather protection. I’ll get the address later this week
